The Pantomimes formed in Shrewsbury in the autumn of 2006 after previous band The Narwhals disbanded. Joe Allan and Richard Hooper already played lead guitar and bass, respectively; James Hickson shifted from drums to vocals and guitar. Joe's guitar playing is often folksy, sometimes rocky, but always melodic and sparky. Hooper's bass is uncomplicated, and serves the songs well. Your average Pantomimes song will convey a tone of wistfulness: consider the world-weary aura of Ulysses, or the nostalgic lilt of Man of Letters.
