In 2000 Madeline began performing her songs in Athens, Georgia at the age of 15. Over the next couple of years, Madeline worked on a full length album and fronted the locally successful psychedelic pop band, The Sugar Shakers. In 2002 Madeline self-released her album Kissing & Dancing. In 2003 the record was re-released by Plan-It-X records. That year, Madeline went on her first big tour, accompanied by Zumm Zumm.
Camper Van Beethoven is an alternative rock band that was founded in 1983 in Redlands, California, though the band soon moved to Santa Cruz, California. Camper Van Beethoven mixed elements of pop, ska, punk rock, folk, country, and acid rock into an eclectic, catchy and sometimes mysterious ensemble, years before the so-called alternative rock moniker came to mainstream attention. The group's trademark violin-coated melodies and their ironic take on American culture put them one step away from being a novelty act in the eyes of many critics.
Chuck Ragan is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. From 1993 until 2006 he was one of the lead singers for Gainesville, Florida-based punk rock band Hot Water Music. The group disbanded in 2006, and the other three members went on to form punk band The Draft, while Ragan launched a solo career playing folk music. He has since released a series of 7-inches on No Idea Records, and a live album (Los Feliz) and a studio album (Feast or Famine) on Side One Dummy. Hot Water Music reformed in 2008, while Chuck still performs and records solo material on the side.
Folk punk versifier Isaac Graham is proof that the best things start at home. Armed with a Tascam 8-track recorder, an acoustic guitar and an irrepressible DIY ethic, Isaac recorded his debut album
The Popes were originally assembled by Shane MacGowan (of the Pogues) after he either quit (his version) or was booted (the band's version) from the Pogues. Although they began life as Shane's backing band, Shane's somewhat "erratic" behavior gave them the incentive and the room to branch out on their own a bit. They have released one studio cd, "Holloway Boulevard," on Snapper records, and a live set coupled with the studio set, also on Snapper Records. With Shane back touring with the Pogues, it's unclear whether the Popes will continue on their own or go their separate ways.
